Two Things Tuesday

in Life

I’ve been quiet lately. Nothing good or bad is causing it. I just haven’t had much to say.  I’m starting to get the urge to write again though.

Plus I’ve been busy!  Last week I had my sister visiting for a few days and then I spent a couple of days with my parents.  I love having my family live closer to me.  I need some down time this week though.  I’m trying to find the time for it.

Anyway, here are a couple of things I’ve been up to lately.

Quad City Marathon

For the 4th year in a row I was the Medals Chair for the Quad City Marathon committee. I’m in charge of receiving and organizing the medals, getting volunteers, and overseeing this on race day. We have a 5k, half marathon, marathon, and 5-person marathon relay which adds up to ~5,000 medals total. Race day is always super long for me because I’m there before it starts and I don’t leave until the last person has crossed the finish line. Usually that means 8 hours of standing and running around. Luckily for them, I split my volunteers into two shifts.

I got pretty choked up watching people finish, especially starting at the 6 hour mark through the last person. Being a slower runner myself I feel a kinship with the people who are out there for what seems like forever and still giving their all when they cross the finish line. I make damn sure they get their medal and our emcee gets everyone to create a “tunnel of love” for these runners to go through as they finish so they have people there and cheering loud for them. The QC marathon is a class act. I’m proud to be a part of it.

Running with Police Escort Podcast

Did you know I was a guest on a podcast?? I was! I met the beautiful Jill @ The Year of the Phoenix at Fitbloggin’ 14.

She had the amazing idea to start a podcast dedicated to those of us that spend a lot of time in the back of the pack. She asked me to be a guest and I was happy to do it. We talked about speedwork, training plans, and my Ironman 70.3 race experience. My favorite part is at the end where we get off track talking about Disney races and determine that Universal Studios should have a Harry Potter race. There could be a House Cup and everything! How cool would that be?! :)  Go here to listen to the episode or download it from iTunes.

Happy Tuesday!
