Triathlon Training… COMMENCE!

That’s right!  I’m 8 weeks out from my first triathlon of the year and that means I’m officially in training.

The triathlon is the QC Spring Triathlon on June 14th.  It has a 600 yard lake swim, 15 mile bike, and 5k run.


The schedule will generally look like this:

  • Mon:    Shorter/Faster Run
  • Tue:      Rest
  • Wed:    Swim
  • Thu:     Long/Slow Run
  • Fri:       Swim
  • Sat:      Bike
  • Sun:     Rest

The short run will be used to work in speed and hill work while the long run will continue to increase distance.  The bike will start at 45 minutes and go up from there.  The main goal is to log time in the saddle.  I also hope to work in two strength training sessions.  I’m not sure where they will best fit yet so I’ll work that out in the first couple of weeks.  If I’m feeling really good during training I’ll drop to only one rest day.

I’m excited to be in training.  As evidenced by my hitting the pool after work today!  It would have been easy to just head home as I’m feeling a little blue today but I couldn’t skip the workout.


(Dedication means messing up your hair for a workout :-P)

So right about the hair! I once had a girl tell me she couldn’t workout at night because that meant she would have to take two showers in one day! Say WHAT!?! #worstexcuseever

True confession: I don’t always shower after a night-time workout!

I agree though… lame excuse!
