Monday Motivation: It’s Not About the Weight

I saw this quote in a post from former Biggest Loser contestant Isabeau Miller and it really struck me.  It is so true.  Yes, weight loss improves our health.  However, a lot of its benefits comes not from the actual weight loss but from the confidence we gain from it.  Confidence to put ourselves back into the dating world.  Confidence to try a new sport or train for a race.  Confidence to move on from relationships that are not serving us.  Confidence to expect better from our lives.

Why does it take weight loss for us to do these things?

We fear we are less capable.  This isn’t true.  You may not be as fast or as good as maybe you could be, but weight shouldn’t prevent you from doing a 5k or trying a new sport.

We fear we are less lovable.  But the person that would love the skinny you and not the heavier you is not a person you want in your life anyway.

We feel we deserve less.  Maybe this comes from living in a society that worships thin to the point of unhealthy and wages war on those that struggle with being overweight.  Whatever the reason, we as people deserve happiness and respect no matter what our pant size is.

Don’t wait to lose the weight before you start demanding more from yourself, your relationships, and your life.  Weight loss itself won’t solve your problems or suddenly make you happy.  Take action NOW.
