Happiness Advice from Mom & Dad

Over Christmas break (which makes it sound like I’m in college but really just means the time when my company shuts down between Christmas and New Year’s so I get 10-14 days off) I spent a lot of time thinking about how I can be happier.  Because after all, 2014 is #OperationHappy.

I asked my parents for advice on this.  I am at that age, after all, that I can recognize how smart they are.  And they seem to have lived pretty happy lives.  I’m sure they will provide more advice in the future (or after reading this) but I wanted to share the nuggets of wisdom they gave me.  They may seem simple, but it is advice almost everyone could use to examine and improve their lives.  So without further ado, life advice from my parents!

  • To be happy you have to remove the things and people that make you unhappy
  • You must be happy with yourself first.  If there is something you don’t like, work on changing it.
  • Take care of yourself now.  What you do now will affect your health and happiness as you get older.

What is the best life/happiness advice you’ve gotten from your parents?  Share in the comments!
