They say your taste buds change every 7 years. This is probably a myth, but go with me here. I think that they tend to change in favor of liking more foods rather than changing the foods you like. There are definitely foods I like now that I didn’t use to like, but I can’t think of any I used to like that I don’t now!
Anyway, today’s post is about three foods I used to hate that I really like now.
Of course I liked ketchup and pasta sauce but that was it. In fact, I have vivid memories of my friend Katie forcing me to eat cherry tomatoes from their garden when I went to her house in the summer. I hated it. She takes responsibility for my liking tomatoes even though it wasn’t until years after that torture that it happened. Actually, the first time I ate and liked them were when I got a Happy Joe’s BLT pizza and they forget to hold the T. That’s the only way I ate them for over a year
(the tomato pusher!)
2) Red Onions (and even yellow sometimes!)
I don’t really mind finely chopped onions in cooking. They add flavor and as long as I couldn’t taste them I was fine. Now, I can’t imagine sandwiches without red onion. So good. Though my old aversion did prevent me from experiencing onion breath until I was 29 years old!
The first time I liked avocado was in a guacamole from On the Border. I started making it at home and now I like avocado even outside of guac. It is so creamy and yummy. Luckily it has the good kind of fats!
It’s hard to believe I didn’t eat any of these just a handful of years ago because they go on so many things and I really enjoy them now. Now if only I would lose my taste for Sweettarts or ice cream!
What foods do you like now that you hated before?
