I was talking to my Mom on the phone last night and telling her about the half Ironman I committed to do and it dawned on me: that race is 6 months from today! Which was yesterday. Which means the race is now LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AWAY! Excuse me while I hyperventilate…
…
…
Okay, I’m back.
I need every single second of those 6 months to get in the kind of shape I want to be in for this race. That means I have to start right now!
The hardest part of any triathlon for me is the run. I suck at running.

Truth. Too bad I seem to be hell bent on doing it. Seems Nike and I have a similar philosophy.

So this is the part I have to start working on right away. To do the 70.3 training plan I’ve been looking at I’ll have to be able to run 10 miles pretty comfortably by mid-May. Enter the Hal Higdon 15k/10 mile training plan. In 10 weeks (by April 19th or so) I should be able to run 10 miles and then I’ll have almost a month to get “comfortable” with that distance before really jumping into the half Ironman training.
Today kicks it off with a 2 mile run. Sadly because of my work schedule I will probably have to run after I go out for a Mardi Gras Dinner. But it doesn’t matter. I will fit it in because it’s important to me to do this and do it well.
So there!

Haha, I love that Nike thing. Good luck with training!
Hey fellow Iowan!
I know right? I feel like “Just Do It, even if you suck” should be my new motto when it comes to working out. haha!
