There are several of these Random Fact Generators on the internet.  Just Google it.  They are always good for interesting and useless trivia, which is one of my favorite things.  Here are a few completely random facts for you from Mental Floss, along with my comments:

1)  The Democratic Republic of Congo is roughly the size of the USA east of the Mississippi River.

2)  Buddy Ebsen, known for his portrayal of Jed Clampett on the Beverly Hillbillies, was originally cast as the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz. However, he had to drop out of production when he discovered he was allergic to the silver make up required for the Tin Man.

I’m allergic to silver!  Not sure about makeup, but jewelry at least!

3)  Gremlins was one of two movies to influence the start of the PG-13 rating. The other was Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

LOVE Indiana Jones.  And I remember when my parents wouldn’t let me watch the Gremlins when I was little.  I ended up seeing it at a sleepover.

4)  Marie Curie’s notebooks are still radioactive.

Yikes!

5)  Beethoven, Schubert, Dvorak, and Mahler all died before completing a tenth symphony.

Good thing 9th symphonies are so good.  Clearly no need for a 10th…

6)  Whiskey is clear when it is first distilled. It gets its color and much of its taste from the oak barrels in which it is aged.

So it looks and tastes a lot like vodka before being aged?

7)  Baseball player Richie Ashburn, in August 1957, hit a fan with a foul ball. A few minutes later, he hit the same fan again(!) while she was being taken out on a stretcher.

That’s a bad day at the ballpark!

8)  The Margherita pizza is named for Margherita of Savoy, Queen consort of Italy from 1878-1900 during the reign of her husband, King Umberto I.

9)  “Pepsi-Cola” is an anagram for “Episcopal,” which some believe the drink is named after. But then “Britney Spears” is an anagram for “Presbyterians,” so we’re inclined to discount this theory.’

This can hardly be called a “fact”.  More like “ramblings of someone with WAY too much time on their hands”.

10)  Despite being nominated five times, Gandhi never won the Nobel Peace Prize. Although posthumous awards aren’t given, the Nobel Committee came as close as possible in 1948, the year he died, when they didn’t give out an award because “there was no suitable living candidate.”

11)  In the classic movie-musical, The Wizard of Oz, the many-hued Horse of a Different Color that leads Dorothy and gang through the Emerald City wasn’t actually painted. Instead, animal rights activists advocated that the white horse be sponged with different flavors (and colors) of gelatin and then physically restrained from licking it off. I actually knew this but I had to include it because it was submitted by someone who lives (or lived) right near me!

***I think the most fun fact today is that the number 8 followed by a right parenthesis in WordPress makes a smiley face with sunglasses.  Didn’t catch it?  Scroll back up!
