Advice for This Century

  • If your hands are shaking while writing an email, don’t send it.
  • Re-read and re-check your ‘To’ list before sending any email.
  • Tone is hard to convey in any written form.  Be careful.
  • If seeing posts from someone in your Twitter or Facebook feed consistently angers/frustrates/saddens you, unsubscribe!  There’s no reason to subject yourself to that.
  • If you have a problem with someone, discuss it with them instead of posting snarky comments on a social media site and then pretending everything is fine to their face.
  • Do not use social media to fight back and forth with someone and don’t use your posts to attack someone (certainly not by name).  Post your feelings or frustrations if you want, but be respectful.
  • Don’t use technology as a replacement for face to face contact.  Those real life relationships are important, especially when you go through a rough patch.

These are just a handful of the many pieces of advice that could be given; ones plucked from my experience or what I have seen recently.  Maybe there will be a Part 2 to this post.  What advice do you have?
