When working towards a long-term goal it is important to reward yourself for mini goals along the way. It helps keep you motivated and on track during what could be months of hard work to reach the bigger goal.
I set a goal of weighing in at under 160 by the end of 2012. This is a significant amount of weight and it would be easy to get discouraged. So, I’m going to reward myself every time I enter a new set of ten. That means that the first time my weight starts with a 21 (like 219.##) instead of a 22, reward! When it starts with a 20, another reward! Hopefully these mini rewards will keep me motivated on my long journey to a weight starting with a 15. This means I’ll be giving myself about 6 rewards before I hit my goal, with the final reward being a shopping spree at an outlet mall!
Here are some rewards I’m planning for myself:
- An electric toothbrush
- New running shoes
- A bottle of new perfume
- A new Miche bag shell
- A massage
- A facial
These are things that are splurges for me, not things I’d buy myself any old time. The exception here is the new running shoes, which I would buy anyways because I will need them soon. I may just decide to buy those because they are a necessity and find a different reward to use. Either way, I’ve got some good ideas and its fun to think about treating myself!
How do you reward yourself on the way to a bigger goal?
