Focus on What You Can Control

Sometimes life doesn’t go how you plan.

Sometimes, like last night, I feel like everything is out of my control.

Work stress.  Other people’s actions.  My own feelings.

It was frustrating.  I felt helpless, depressed, angry.

It happens to the best of us from time to time.  Life crashes in on us in waves and it can be overwhelming.  It can seem unfair.

Here’s my advice:

Focus on what you CAN control.

Last night I had speed work on my training schedule.  I could have easily justified skipping the workout.  I wouldn’t have blamed myself.

But my workout is something that I can control regardless of what else is going on.

The run didn’t make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.  It didn’t make everything better.

It did make me feel good about taking control of something.

I was glad that I did not let things out of my control affect things in my control.

What can you control?

Your workout?  Your actions?  Your nutrition?

Focus on those things.

Do good where you can.

And don’t beat yourself up for not being able to control everything!
