Volleyball & Vitamix

The two items in the post title are completely unrelated.  This is not about how I chopped up a volleyball in my Vitamix just to prove it could handle it.  No no (though the things that people do to prove how great their stuff is?  Crazy!).   These just happen to be the two things I’m excited about today.

I absolutely love recreational sports leagues for a variety of reasons and my fall/winter volleyball league is my favorite.  My team is just a heck of a lot of fun.  We’re also pretty good when we can pull it together!  Last night we won all four of our league games.  That’s two weeks in a row of sweeping the other team.  Go Team Awesome!

Now on to the Vitamix part.  Most of you probably have heard of Vitamix because it is a very popular blender in the healthy eating, whole foods world.  My parents had a Vitamix when I was growing up and every blender I’ve had during my adult life has been a disappointment because of it.  I haven’t been able to bring myself to buy one because they are so expensive ($450+ online) but I’ve dreamed about it!

(the Vitamix of my dreams)

Last night while wandering around Sam’s Club I stumbled on a Vitamix demonstrator.  Who doesn’t love free samples?  (If you said yes, you confuse me!).  He made a fruit and veggie smoothie to start.  It had blueberries, banana, pineapple, carrots, and spinach.  It tasted delicious.  I love that you couldn’t taste the veggies but you got at least 1 serving of them hidden in a delicious drink.  Then he really blew my mind.  My parents really only used it for drinks and smoothies but I’d heard about how it could make hot soup and do all kinds of other magic things.  This guy showed us how to make peanut butter in just a couple of minutes.  He literally just poured honey roasted peanuts right out of the jar and ground them into creamy peanut butter.  Amazing.  By the way, honey roasted peanut butter is fantastic!

Clearly I was already sold on the blender before this experience but it just solidified my want for it.  The good news is that it is under $400 at Sam’s and that’s pretty cheap for it.  The bad news is they only have it until Sunday.  Luckily I was able to work it out as part of my birthday and Christmas present from a good friend and that contribution brings it down to a price I’m willing to pay.

Long story short?

I’m getting a Vitamix blender tonight!  *happy dance* :) :)

This is of course assuming they are not sold out as they warned me they might be since they sold out once this week already.  I like to think they just say that to push sales though.  If it really is sold out it cause major sadness.

What have you splurged on recently that you really wanted?
