Music is so powerful. The right song can cheer us up or make us cry. It can also pump us up! There are innumerable songs out that can get you jazzed and ready to go. Why do you think so many people have headphones on at the gym?

There was a video that my swim coach would show the team every year. It was a mash-up of USA Swimming clips from the 1992 Olympics that was used as a promo for the 1996 Games in Atlanta. The video is called “Dreams of Glory” and it is set to the song “Right Now” by Van Halen. Every time I saw this video I was overwhelmed. These people were my idols. They were the best in the country in a sport I’d been in love with as long as I could remember. It mirrored the dreams I had for myself though on a much grander scale.

To this day, “Right Now” is my ultimate motivation song. Every time I hear it I get amped up. It lifts my spirits and makes me want to give my all. When I listen to it before a race it focuses me on the task at hand.

Here’s the video. Enjoy it and share with me what your power song is!

I am so happy I found this video again! My coach used to show us this video before big meets and I loved it! I had it memorized to the point that when I heard “Right Now” I could envision which part of the video was playing. I actually wrote a college entrance essay about that song and it’s impact!
