Plans for my two half marathons this year are really coming together!
The first one is the Seattle Rock ‘n Roll half marathon which I’m running with my good pal Carrie in June. Steve and I just bought plane tickets over the weekend! The race is on Saturday morning so we’re heading out on Thursday so I have a day between traveling and running. Since Carrie lives out there (hence the reason for running this particular race) lodging is already taken care of. Sweet!
We’re coming home on Tuesday so that we have Sunday and Monday at least for sightseeing. Carrie is even taking Friday and Monday off to spend with us! I can’t in good conscience count Saturday for anything other than recovery. It’s my first half marathon after all! Steve has promised to take care of me (and Carrie too of course!) since he’s not running. He’s a good friend!
The second half will be the Disney Wine & Dine half marathon. Steve always said he’d never do a half marathon unless it was at Disney, so there you go! Plus, it’s Disney. So naturally it will be amazing. Especially since its run at night through the parks, which will be all lit up, and ends at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. I’m getting giddy just thinking about it!
Registration for the Disney race in October opened last week. Steve and I registered and he emailed a bunch of friends to see if anyone else was interested in the race or trip. So far there are 5 of us signed up to run! Lodging arrangements will be made soon since Disney resorts fill up quickly, especially on big event weekends. Flights will come later.
It’s still hard to believe that I’m making plans for two half marathons when my longest run to date is still just 7 miles (wait… just 7 miles? That’s a long way!) and that was just last week. But deciding on these races last summer, finding people to do them with, and setting the goal is what’s made me work to get this far.
Sometimes committing to something hard and scary is just the motivation you need to achieve it
